Coni J. White

Coni J. White, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away on March 18, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa, at the age of 76. She was born on November 3, 1947, in Clinton, Iowa, to the late Elmer and Irene (Beck) Risinger.

A graduate of Maquoketa High School’s class of 1965, Coni embarked on a journey of love with former husband Russ Hart on May 20, 1967, in Maquoketa, Iowa. Their union blessed them with three wonderful children: Janelle, Ed, and Rusty. Though Coni and Russ later parted ways, love rekindled in her life when she met Michael Curtis White. Their hearts united in marriage on June 20, 1997, in Maquoketa, and they shared a devoted partnership until his passing on May 8, 2018.

Coni’s professional life initially embraced the role of a farm wife, and later contributed her skills to the Farrell Gas Company in Maquoketa. Her career path led her to working at the local Kentucky Fried Chicken for a time, followed by several years at the helm of Happy Joe’s. Ultimately, Coni found her calling in the kitchens of Maquoketa Schools, where she served as a beloved cook for 19 years before her well-deserved retirement.

Beyond her work, Coni relished the simple pleasures of life. She found joy in tending to her garden, and was known for her ability to socialize and connect with people from all walks of life. Most importantly, she cherished time spent with her family and friends, creating memories that would become their most treasured inheritance.

Coni’s legacy continues through her loving family. She is survived by her children, Janelle (Allen) Weimerskirch of Cedar Falls, IA, Ed (Kathy) Hart of Lake Mills, WI, and Rusty (Jay) Hart of Prescott, WI. Her memory will be held dear by her eight grandchildren, Lekeisha, Hali, Emma, Kelcey, Libby, Brian, Eddie, and Lucas, who brought immeasurable joy to her life. The light of her love will also shine on through her two great-grandchildren, Delia, and Lundyn.  She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Mike White.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11:30 A.M., Friday, March 29, 2024, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa.  Visitation will be held prior to the funeral from 9:30 to 11:15 A.M. at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Coni J. White memorial fund has been established.
