Connie L. Nissen
The last of Charlie’s Angel’s has been called home. Connie L. Nissen, 79, of Bernard, Iowa, and formerly of Maquoketa and Center Junction, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at Maquoketa Care Center in Maquoketa, Iowa.
Connie Lee Waters was born on March 11, 1947, in Davenport, Iowa, to Charles and Grace (Osgood) Waters. She was a 1966 graduate of Lost Nation High School. She married John Junior Nissen on July 3, 1970, at Zion Lutheran Church in Wyoming, Iowa. He preceded her in death on June 10, 2013.
Connie had worked at Casey’s during the mid-1980s and later worked at different area nursing homes before taking a position at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids as a Trauma Secretary, where she served for 18 years. She was known for her dependable nature and her willingness to help wherever she was needed.
Connie enjoyed the simple pleasures that made life meaningful. She loved crocheting and pottery, and she especially enjoyed coffee with friends, drinking Pepsi, and having lunch with her sisters when they were all living.
Those left to honor her memory including her children, Kayleen (Todd) Barten of Maquoketa, IA, Kristen (Bill Jamison) Hagemann of Maquoketa, IA, and Thomas Nissen of Bernard, IA; 9 grandchildren, Jens (Dani) Barten of Delmar, IA, Drake Barten of Maquoketa, IA, Dakota Barten of Elwood, IA, Landen Barten of Maquoketa, IA, Madison (Carl) Hagemann of Maquoketa, IA, Walker Barten of Elwood, IA, Gabriel Hagemann of Marion, IA, Corbin Nissen of Anamosa, IA, Rodney Nissen of Wyoming, IA; and 3 great-grandchildren, Teegan Barten of Delmar, IA, Bradley Barten of Delmar, IA, and Axel Oberbreckling of Spragueville, IA; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John Junior Nissen, son Wesley Nissen, brothers Charles “Chick” Waters and Eddie Waters, and sisters Wanita Sheldon, Dorothy Eggert, Jeanette Knuth, Dona Stender, Irma Neiber, and Sandra McCombs.
A memorial gathering of family and friends celebrating Connie’s life will be held from 4 to 6 P.M., Friday, July 10, 2026, in “The Bistro” at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. A private burial will be held at a later date at Oakdale Cemetery, Davenport, Iowa.
