Daniel S. Tressel, 68, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on September 16, 2026, at home surrounded by the family that he loved so deeply.

Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm Friday, September 18, 2026, at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Crematory.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Daniel will be 10:00 am Saturday, September 19, 2026, at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Father Michael Schueller as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque.

Daniel was born on September 17, 1957, in Dubuque, Iowa, to Paul and Joan (Halverson) Tressel. He grew up being one of seven siblings, learning early in life the importance of family, loyalty, and laughter. On March 13, 1982, Daniel married the love of his life, Jane Lanser, in Dubuque. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised two daughters, creating a family that would become the greatest source of pride and joy in Dan’s life.

Daniel retired in June of 2022 after a long and dedicated career as a Network Technician with Lumen, originally Northwestern Bell when he began his career.

Dan was a man who truly knew how to enjoy life and make the most of every moment. If you were looking for him, there was a good chance you would find him on the golf course, a cold drink in his hand, chasing another ace and proudly claiming his title as the “King of Aces.” He was an avid golfer at Bunker Hill Golf Course and loved playing league, golfing with his wife, Jane, and taking part in the annual Tressel Invitational. His golf friends became an important part of his life, and the laughter, competition, stories, and friendships they shared created memories he treasured more than any scorecard ever could.

When he wasn’t golfing, Dan could usually be found in his recliner watching an old John Wayne movie or cheering on his beloved Green Bay Packers. He was a true Packer fan who celebrated the wins, endured the losses, and probably had a few choice words for the television along the way. He loved sharing his passion for football with family and friends.

As much as Dan loved golf, football, and all the simple pleasures of life, nothing compared to his love for his family. He was a devoted husband, caring sibling, loving father, and incredibly proud grandfather. His family was his greatest joy and he cherished every opportunity to spend time with them.

He was especially proud of his daughters and was always there to support them, encourage them, and celebrate their accomplishments. His love and support were unconditional and his family always knew they could count on him. Then came his grandchildren, who held an especially precious place in his heart. Dan absolutely adored being a grandpa. He took tremendous pride in watching each of them grow and he cherished the time he was able to spend with them. To his grandchildren, Grandpa Dan was someone who made them feel loved, supported, and important – and that is a gift they will carry with them forever.

Those who knew Dan will miss so much about him: his laugh, his stories, his humor, his stubborn determination to get that next ace, his love of golf, and most of all, the way he made the people around him feel loved. His family will miss having him in the chair, at the table, on the golf course, in the stands, and by their side for all the moments yet to come.

There is no doubt Dan would have loved the opportunity to lock in one more scorecard, chase one more ace, share one more cold one with his buddies, cheer on one more game, and spend one more day with his family. While his time here was not long enough, he leaves behind a lifetime of love, laughter, friendships, and memories that will never be forgotten. He may no longer be beside us, but the love and memories he gave us will remain forever.

Surviving members of his family included his beloved wife, Jane Tressel; two daughters, Jessica (T.J. Rawson) Tressel of Dubuque and Melissa (Justin) Reynolds of East Dubuque, IL; five grandchildren, Liz (Dominic Smith) Reynolds,  Jayden Reynolds, Alayna Boleyn, Aurora Boleyn, and Odin Rawson; six siblings, Mark (Cheryl) Tressel, Tom (Julie) Tressel, Steve Tressel,  Kathy Mullen, Rose (Dan) LoBianco, and Mike (Connie Francis) Tressel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Joan Tressel and one sister-in-law Dellane Tressel.

Dan’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the providers and staff at University of Iowa Hospital, St. Luke’s Hospital, UnityPoint Dubuque, Paramount Ambulance, Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota Oncology, and Kelli, Angie, and Elizabeth with Hospice of Dubuque for the compassionate care they provided to Dan and his family during his final days.

A memorial has been established to Hospice of Dubuque.
