Dave Hayes, 61, of Dubuque, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on Tuesday, September 5, 2023.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, September 9, at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 John F. Kennedy Rd., Dubuque, where a memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday. Deacon Dave Roth will officiate. Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Dave was born August 29, 1962 in Dubuque, the son of Gerald and Joanne (Rossman) Hayes. Dave was employed at several places over the years, including as a gravedigger for J.P. Vincent and Sons in Galena, at Walmart in Galena, and most recently at Way Point as a delivery driver.

Dave was a social butterfly who also enjoyed relaxing at home and going to the casino. Dave was a man of many words to many people he was around.  In his younger years he enjoyed playing softball. He was a devoted pet owner, and loved his dog, Shenay.

Dave is survived by his longtime companion, Penny Koehler, of Dubuque, and her son, Tyler (CeCe) Koehler, of Phoenix, AZ; his siblings, Michael (Patricia) Hayes, Karen Kutsch, Lynn (Tom) Dotterweich, and Jim Hayes, all of Dubuque; two sons, Gavin Glynn and Tony Ernst; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three siblings, Deb Avenarius, Jeff Hayes, and Jerry Hayes.
