David M. Reuter

David M. Reuter, 74, of Baldwin, Iowa, passed away on Monday morning, September 28, 2026, at home after a short battle with cancer.

David M. Reuter was born on December 3, 1951, in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Michael and Edna (Kilburg) Reuter. He attended Maquoketa schools and grew up with the values of hard work and commitment to family and friends. On September 28, 1974, he was united in marriage to Mary R. Browne in Lost Nation, Iowa.  To this union, two daughters were born, Julie and Kathryn, who brought him great pride and joy.

David was a man who stayed busy and was known for his strong work ethic and steady presence. In his younger years, he worked at Clinton Engines, Caterpillar, Maquoketa and Midland School Districts where he drove school buses and served as a custodian. He farmed and worked for the Clinton County Highway Department from 1978 until his retirement in 2014. In retirement he enjoyed working with friends and spending time with family and friends.

David enjoyed visiting and helping others. He had a kind and generous spirit, and he found his greatest happiness in the simple, meaningful moments of life. Most of all, he cherished time spent with his family and friends. For those who knew him well he had multiple sayings including “either way it will be perfect”, “add that to my hundred-year plan”, “have a good time”, and “that’s all I have to say about that.”

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Mary Reuter; children, Julie Reuter and Kathryn (Brian) Pisch, and their children, Alexander, and Adrianna (Wesley) Pisch; and siblings, Jim (Lori) Reuter, Ron (Janeen) Reuter, Donna Keeney, Darla (Gerald) Banowetz, Jean (Don) Weis, Diana (Tod) Christiansen, Bernice (Tim) Licata, Linda (Greg) Snyder, Lou Ann (Charles) Heim, Rose Ann (Terry) Schultz, and Christina Reuter.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a baby granddaughter, Olivia Pisch and a brother-in-law, Jay Keeney.

Per his wishes, cremation has taken place and a private ceremony will be held to honor David’s life. The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers at this time.
