Dorothy E. Schilling
Dorothy E. Schilling, age 78, of Dubuque, IA passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at Stonehill Care Center, surrounded by her loving family.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2019 from 9 AM until Mass time at 12 noon at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Fr. Michael Schueller will be presiding. Interment will be offered at St. John’s Cemetery, Centralia, IA.
Dorothy was born August 22, 1940 in Graf, IA to her parents, Matthew and Mildred (Cole) Maas. She married the love of her life, Robert “Ace” Schilling, on April 4, 1959 at St. John the Baptist Church in Peosta. Robert preceded her in death on June 8, 2014. Dorothy was best known for taking care of others. She always had a caring heart and put other peoples’ needs before her own. Many life lessons were learned from Dorothy. She taught others what it meant to be loving, giving, hardworking, humble, and kind.She enjoyed going to church, camping, gardening, her fish pond, cooking, playing euchre, “Coffee Clutch”, stock car races and spending time with family (especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.) Holidays were a big deal at her house. Grandchildren have many fond memories of her extravagant Halloween parties.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Bob (Laura) Schilling, Graf, IA, Judy (Randy) Kroeger, of Dubuque, IA, Ron (Nancy) Schilling, Bernard, IA, Julie (Jamie) Brown, Asbury, IA, Jayne (Kevin) O’Brien, Asbury, IA, and June (Terry) Jahn, of Dubuque, IA; her grandchildren, Jim (Courtney), Jeffrey Schilling, Stacy, Brian (Dana) Mess, Ryan (Kaitlyn) Schilling, Nicole (Dylan) Schilling Ford, Jason (Keri), Jared, Jessica Brown, Kaitlyn, Scott (Danielle Vargas) O’Brien, Matt (Hannah), Jacob (Kayla Gaber) and Elizabeth Jahn; great-grandmother of twelve; sister of Arlene (Leo) Dietz, Asbury, IA, Donna (James) Weydert, Peosta, IA; sister-in-law, Madelyn Schilling, Peosta, IA; her in-laws, Darlene Berzle, Peosta, IA, Rita McFadden, Lancaster, PA, Carol Schmitt, Peosta, IA, Jean (Virgil) Hansen, Dubuque, IA, Shirley, Schilling, Dubuque, IA, and John (Vicky) Schilling, Rickardsville, IA. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, her husband; two brothers, Matthew (Mary) Maas, Earl Maas; three sisters, Patricia Maas, Helen (Ed) Burds, Marian (Tom) Glockner, brothers-in-law, Fred, Jimmy, and David (Joyce) Schilling, Joe Berzle, John (Pete) McFadden, George Schmitt, and a sister-in-law, Wilma Schilling.
