Edward James Oberbroeckling

Edward James Oberbroeckling, 80, of Rochester, Minnesota, formerly of Epworth, Iowa, passed away Friday, April 12, 2019 at Rochester West Health Services in Rochester, Minnesota surrounded by his family.

Friends and relatives of Ed may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Epworth, Iowa, where a prayer service will be held at 8:00 p.m. Friends may also call after 9 a.m., Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at the Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial for Ed will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Epworth, Iowa with Rev. Michael Schueller presiding. Burial will be held in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.

Ed was born June 29, 1938 in Epworth, Iowa, son of William and Catherine (Pottebaum) Oberbroeckling. He graduated from Epworth High School. On September 18, 1965 he was united in marriage to Janet Reichel at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Dubuque, Iowa. He was a Veteran having served in the United States Army. He farmed on his family farm in the rural Epworth until his retirement in 2001.

He was a member of the St. Patrick’s Parish in Epworth, IA.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Oberbroeckling of Rochester, MN; two children, Debra (Brian) Coy of Byron, MN and Steve (Stephanie) Oberbroeckling of Battle Creek, MI; 5 grandchildren, Shane and Jordan Coy, Mitchell, Blake and Randall Oberbroeckling; three sisters, Sr. Lucilla Oberbroeckling OSF of Mount St. Francis, Dubuque, IA, Rosemary Noonan of Bernard, IA and Virginia Pfab of Dubuque, IA; one brother-in-law, William (Lynn) Reichel of Dubuque, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, William J. (Rita) Oberbroeckling, two sisters, Marcella Oberbroeckling and Verna Oberbroeckling; two brothers-in-law, Harlan Noonan and Leo Pfab.
