Elizabeth A. Hoffman

Elizabeth “Beth” A. (Bennett) Hoffman, 75, died peacefully on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 after courageously battling cholangiocarcinoma for 12 short months. Beth was the definition of the word, “feisty”. She gave everything she had to fight this battle even as the odds were stacked against her. She fought so incredibly hard and took a lot of pride in that – she was an amazing role model to her grandchildren throughout this journey. Because of her feisty personality, she was able to check some things off of her bucket list in her final months – visiting Graceland, Nashville and attending two of her grandchildren’s weddings. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were a source of much joy for her. Beth will be lovingly missed by those who were fortunate to be a part of her life.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Sunday, June 29, 2025 at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Crematory.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Beth will be at 10:30 am on Monday, June 30, 2025, at Church of the Resurrection with Father Phil Gibbs as the Celebrant. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque, where she will join her husband and son in peace.

Beth was born on April 15, 1950 in Dubuque, Iowa to Russell and Angeline (Armato) Bennett. She was the baby of the family and seemed to embrace this position. She graduated from Wahlert Catholic High School in 1968. Beth happily married Ronald “Ron” Hoffman on July 11, 1970. He preceded her in death on February 4, 2023.

Beth proudly worked at John Deere Dubuque Works for 30 years, retiring in 2001. She started out in the Purchasing office and moved to the Specifications Department retiring as a Material Disposition Analyst in Supply Management Services. After officially retiring, Beth worked at both Younkers and Kohls because she loved fashion and she loved being around people. Beth was a very social person who loved to chat and get to know others. She made many friends that remain special to her to this day. Beth and Ron were able to spend several winters in Arizona after retirement – they enjoyed the weather, golfing and all of the friends they made there! They volunteered at the Thrift Shop in Surprise, AZ for many years.

Beth was musically inclined at a young age. She learned piano and made beautiful music both on the piano and with her voice – she had a lovely voice and enjoyed sharing it with others. Beth loved crossword puzzles and was actually able to complete them without peeking at the answers. She enjoyed putting together puzzles, golfing anytime she could, and before arthritis took her hands, she enjoyed cross-stitching and made many beautiful gifts for her loved ones. Beth especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren/great-grandchildren grow up, and watching their many activities over the years was a blessing to her.

Beth is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Tischa (Hoffman) & Terry Busch of Platteville, WI; seven grandchildren: Emilie (Jake) Faherty, Nathan (Mya) Busch, Natalie Busch; Mallory (Ryan Moore) Potter; Austin (Steph) Hoffman; Shelby Hoffman and Ben (Belle) Hoffman; three great-grandchildren: Bentley and Jameson Potter and Grayson Hoffman; and her treasured grand-puppies, Mollie and Ellie. Beth is further survived by three brothers, William “Jack” (Helene) Bennett, Gerald Bennett and Jimmy Jones; her in-laws, Sharon (Richard) Feller, Patricia (William) Dix, Martin (Karen) Hoffman, Maggie Hoffman and Jeda Hoffman, as well as many nieces, nephews, and special friends….. too many to count.

Those who left this world before Beth, who have greeted her with open arms, include her adored husband, Ron; her only son, Ronald J. Hoffman II; her parents, Angeline (Cecil) Jones and Russell Bennett; her parents-in-law, Harold & Ruth Hoffman; her siblings, Francis (Richard) Leppert, Barbara (Albert) Weber, and  Leonard Armato; her in-laws, Sharon Jones, David Hoffman and Timothy Hoffman.

Our family holds so much gratitude in our hearts for all of the family and friends who have been by our side throughout this journey… Mom often commented on how blessed she has felt to have such loving family and friends. A very special thank you to her neighbors who looked out for her on a daily basis and felt like family to her – you know who you are.

Sincere gratitude to Hospice of Dubuque (especially Karla, Kristin & Michelle) – you made Mom’s last weeks memorable and special and we will always be grateful for that. Thank you to Dr. Cheryl Morgan-Ihrig and the nurses in the Mercy Cancer Center for your loving care of Mom and for helping her achieve her goal of LIVING, even though she was dying.

To honor Mom, we will have special treat bags available to you at her services to feed the squirrels – squirrels held a special place in Mom’s heart after the passing of her beloved husband – if you know, you know.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
