Francis Lammer

On June 1, 2026, Francis “Frank” Lammer peacefully passed away at home with family present. His body has been donated to the University of Iowa.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Leonard Funeral Home and Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Rd, Dubuque, Iowa, on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm. Rev. Martin Obeng from St. Joseph, Key West, IA will say prayers at 6:30 pm.

Frank was born on Sept. 8, 1950, in Dubuque, Iowa to Mike and Muriel (Rogers) Lammer. He married Elizabeth Ward on September 9, 1972 at St. Joseph the Worker in Dubuque, Iowa. They had three children: Peter (Natalie); Scott (Julie); and Theresa (John Miller). His children blessed him with six grandchildren: Nicholas Lammer; Cecilia and Cletus Lammer; and Benjamin, Samuel, and Lucy Miller.

He graduated from Clarke University followed by completion of a graduate program at the University of Iowa. He taught at NICC and worked in the NIC Learning Center. He felt great pride and satisfaction in being able to help students become successful with their school studies.

He loved interacting with his family creating memories of sports (CUBS), fishing, golfing, and making stain glass and wooden creations. He was able to draw passing on his artistic skills to his children in different creative venues (wood, stain glass, drawing, and painting). He felt honored to serve on St. Joseph Church committees and Key West Fire Department Board. He felt such respect for the skills and bravery of the Key West Fire Department volunteers.

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth; his sons, Peter (Natalie) and grandson, Nicholas; Scott (Julie) and grandchildren, Cecilia and Cletus; and daughter Theresa (John Miller) and grandchildren Benjamin, Samuel, and Lucy. His sisters Michelle (Tom Parkin) and Jacque (Chris Green); his brother Tom (Sandy); and sister-in-law, Janet Lammer (widow of Dave Lammer); Gene (Lori) Ward, brother-in-law; Kay (Bob) Schuster, sister and brother-in-law, Mona (Mike) Burrows, sister and brother-in-law, and Mike (Mary Lou) Coffey, brother and sister-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents (Mike and Muriel Lammer); his parent in-laws (Donald “Scotty” and Beatrice Ward); and his brother, Dave Lammer.

He spent the last years of his life with Parkinson disease and heart problems. Both of which severely limited his ability to enjoy life. While he will be missed by his family and friends; now, he has earned his time in heaven being happy, mobile, telling jokes, playing golf and euchre and fishing.

The family wish to thank all those who were with Frank during his life journey. We also wish to thank the medical staff at Medical Associates, especially Dr. Mark Runde, Dr. Bruce Abele, and Connor Golden. Because of the Hospice of Dubuque staff, he was able to spend his final weeks at home with his family. A special shout out to the teachers and students at Clarke University PT Program who worked with him the last five years. Stonehill, Thank you.

Memorial donations may be given to Clarke University PT Program, Hospice of Dubuque, or the Key West Fire Department.

Prayers are always helpful.
