Frank P. Kauzlarich Jr.

Frank Peter Kauzlarich Jr., M.Ed. 79, of Durango Iowa, formerly of Downers Grove, Melrose Park and River Grove Illinois, died Sunday, January 18, 2026.

Frank was born on August 12, 1946, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Virginia (Gunther) and Frank Peter Kauzlarich Sr. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, entering service on May 22, 1967, and receiving an honorable discharge on October 5, 1970. During his time in the Marines, he served as a Crew Chief and achieved the rank of Sergeant (E‑5).

After returning home from Vietnam, Frank spent several years finding his footing in civilian life. He worked as a sheet metal worker, rode his motorcycle across open roads, and drove cross‑country deliveries, taking in the vastness of the country he had served.

At age 35, with a renewed sense of purpose, he made the life‑changing decision to return to school so he could give back in a meaningful way. This commitment to service and growth ultimately led him to the classroom, where he discovered his true calling as an educator.

Frank dedicated his teaching career at Valley View Community School District 365U in Bollingbrook and Romeoville Illinois, where he took great pride in watching his students learn and grow. He devoted much of his career to supporting students with learning, emotional, and behavioral challenges, offering patience, structure, and encouragement to young people who needed it most.

Outside the classroom, he found joy in tending his gardens and caring for the bluebirds and hummingbirds that visited his yard.

Frank is survived by his wife of 40 years, Pamela Lillian (Cascio) Kauzlarich; his sisters, Sandra Kauzlarich and Darlene Kauzlarich Darken; his stepson, John Lindsey (Heidi Crandall); and a niece and nephew.

In accordance with Frank’s wishes, no services will be held. The Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Rd., is entrusted with arrangements.
