Gary A. Hanson
Gary A. “Harley” Hanson, 68, of Dubuque, died Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at his home in Dubuque.
Visitation will be from 9:00 am until 11:00 am Friday, January 26, 2024 at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Crematory.
Gary was born August 30, 1955, in Dubuque, IA, the son of James William Sr. and Margaret Marie (Keating) Hanson.
Harley worked for the Dubuque Packing Company for 27 years. Later in his career he worked for Norton News, later known as Dakota News, as a driver until his retirement in 2021.
Harley was an avid slow-pitch softball player, playing for many teams in Dubuque over the years. He was just two votes shy from being inducted into the Slow-Pitch Hall of Fame this year. Harley was also an avid Atlanta Braves fan. He loved going to Milwaukee for weekends to catch some games, usually getting to see 10 to 12 games a season.
Survivors include his two brothers, James (Carolyn) Hanson and Gerald “GT” (Diane) Hanson both of Dubuque; his son, Jarod of Roanoke, Indiana; and three nephews, Brian (Courtney) Hanson, Kyle Hanson, and Tanner Hanson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Stephen Hanson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gary A. “Harley” Hanson Memorial Fund.
