Gayle Monahan
Gayle (Edmonds) Monahan, 96, of Galena passed away Sunday, June 2, 2019 at Prairie Ridge in Galena.
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at the Miller Funeral Home in East Dubuque, where funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 7, 2019, with Rev. Patricia Allen-Stewart officiating. Burial will be Prospect Hill Cemetery, rural Galena.
Gayle was born on September 21, 1922 in Galena, the daughter of Byron and Rebecca (Virtue) Edmonds. She married Howard H. Monahan on July 16, 1942 in Galena. She graduated from Galena High School in 1942 and worked at the Ben Franklin Store in Galena for over 15 years, volunteered with the Galena Stauss Nursing Home in Galena doing hair and loved to travel west, spending many winters in Arizona.
Surviving are her daughter-in-law Celia (Lewis) Monahan of East Dubuque, four grandchildren, Kelly (Steve) Funke of Peoria, IL; Mark (Julie) Monahan of East Dubuque; Jay (Pam) Monahan of Metamora, OH; Pat (Cheri) Monahan of Hiawatha, IA; and 12 great-grandchildren; Megan and Sarah Funke; Ryan, Tyler, Alec and Carlie Monahan; Taylor and Bailey Monahan; Erin and Kyle Monahan and Allie and Hannah Cahill.
She was preceded in death by her husband Howard, her son Terry, her parents, 6 brothers, and 6 sisters.
Gayle was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. She will be missed by all.
