Geraldine A. Behrend

Geraldine A. Behrend, 93, of Monmouth, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2018, at the Anamosa Care Center in Anamosa, Iowa.
A celebration of Geraldine’s life will be held at 2 P.M., Monday, April 2, 2018, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 1 P.M. Burial will be at the Monmouth, Iowa Cemetery.
Geraldine Ann Clapp was born on December 11, 1924 in Toronto, Iowa, to Daniel and Magdelina (Kent) Clapp Sr. She grew up in the Toronto area and married Leonard L. Behrend on February 28, 1942 in Trenton, New Jersey. To this union five children were born, Charlotte, Bill, Lou, Rollie and Betty.
Geraldine raised a family and worked various jobs throughout her life, most notably as the “famous pie maker” at WAKA Restaurant in Maquoketa.
Geraldine was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the United Church of Christ in Maquoketa. She enjoyed feeding the birds, especially cardinals, and cooking, sewing, embroidering quilts, and playing the organ. She especially loved spending time with her family.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Charlotte (Allen) McCloy of Monmouth, IA, Bill (Ann) Behrend of Sioux Falls, SD, Lou (Carla) Behrend of DeWitt, IA, Rollie (Kay) Behrend of Calamus, IA, and Betty (Rich) Priester of Cedar Rapids, IA; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, 3 sisters, and her husband Leonard on February 23, 1994.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be directed to the Activities Department at the Anamosa Care Center.
