Geraldine R. Roth

Geraldine R. “Gerri” Roth, 93, of Dubuque, IA, passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2023, at Stonehill Care Center in Dubuque, with her family by her side.

The Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 1410  Main St, in Dubuque, with The Rev. Dr. Kevin Goodrich, O.P. officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.

Friends and family may call from 9:00 – 10:45 a.m. on Friday at St. John’s Episcopal Church.  The Miller Funeral Home of East Dubuque, IL, is serving the family.

Gerri was born on January 31, 1930, in Dubuque, IA, the daughter of Elbert and Hattie (Zlabek) Williams.  She was united in marriage to Martin A. Roth on September 18, 1954. Marty preceded her in death on November 8, 2012.

She was a graduate of Dubuque Senior High School. Gerri was a secretary for Thermolyne Mfg. Co, Marshall, and Prescott Schools, and retired from the Iowa Department of Revenue, receiving the employee of the month award in November of 1982, after 30 years of service.

Gerri was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a devoted volunteer to St. John’s Church, working rummage sales, cookie walks, and volunteering in the office as needed.

Surviving are two children, Cheryl (Dave) Schmitt of North Liberty, IA, and Deacon David (Karen) Roth of Dubuque; her grandchildren, Marissa Dietzenbach, Michael Schmitt, Molly (Neil) Weston, Matt (Erin) Roth, Jacob Roth, and Sam Roth; her great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Lacie, Jonah, Cora, and Luka, Hadlee, Ian and Emersyn.

Gerri was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Marty, granddaughter, Kaitlin Roth, and siblings, Florence, Marjorie, Violet, Doris, Lyle, Bob, Kenneth, and Harold.

In lieu of flowers a Geraldine Roth memorial fund has been established.

Gerri’s family wishes to give special thanks to the nurses and staff at Hospice of Dubuque, especially Becky and Amber, and the Stonehill Care Center staff.
