Germaine A. Hense

Germaine A. “Geri” Hense, 95, of Dubuque, IA, passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Stonehill Care Center in Dubuque.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, January 11, 2019 at St. Mary’s Church in East Dubuque, with Fr. Dean Smith officiating. Entombment will be in Resurrection Garden Mausoleum at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is 3 – 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Miller Funeral Home in East Dubuque, where the parish scripture service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday.

Germaine was born on July 8, 1923 near Potosi, Wisconsin, the daughter of Joseph P. and Hildegard (Pickel) Margan. She married Arthur E. Hense on November 23, 1944 at St. Patrick’s Church in Dubuque. He preceded her in death on March 20, 1992.

Geri attended St. Joseph’s Academy, the Mercy School of Nursing and the University of Dubuque. She was employed as an R.N. and educator at The Finley Hospital for 25 years, retiring in 1987.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Parish and its Altar & Rosary Society in East Dubuque, St. Joseph Academy Alumni, Mercy School of Nursing Alumni, Catholic Mothers Study Club-St. Cecelia Circle, A.C.C.W. and the American Red Cross.

Surviving is a son, Kevin A. (Mary) Hense, two grandsons, Craig and Brett Hense all of Destin, Florida; her siblings, Celine Knockel, Lorraine “Lovey” Webb both of Dubuque, JoAnn Stash of Huntington Beach, CA, Eleanor (Donald) Frederick of Bellwood, IL, June Margan of Hanover, IL, and Joseph (Grace) Margan of Dubuque; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Geri was preceded in death by her parents, husband Arthur E. Hense, and siblings and inlaws, Erma (Alfred) Kerkenbush, Walter Knockel, Eugene Webb, Michael Stash, Lloyd (Vivian) Margan, and Milton “Butch” (Ursula) Margan, John, Eileen, Darcus and Carol Margan.

In lieu of flowers, a Germaine A. “Geri” Hense memorial fund has been established.

Geri’s family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Stonehill Care Center for their kindness to Geri.
