Gloria A. Hein

Gloria Ann (Reuschel) Hein, age 94, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away December 23, 2023, at Bethany Home.

Gloria was born on September 4, 1929 to Herman John Reuschel and Martha Ida (Scheidecker) Reuschel in Dubuque, Iowa.  She graduated from Dubuque Senior High School. Gloria was united in marriage to Norman Earl Hein on May 1, 1954, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Dubuque, Iowa. Together they raised two boys, Brad and Brett.

Gloria was an avid reader, politically opinionated, election volunteer, and a Right to Life supporter.  She loved fashion, expressing her style through hats, jewelry, shoes and clothing… always “dressing to the nines”.

Gloria volunteered for many years in support of the Dubuque Community Theater. Before marriage she studied at the Beauty Academy and worked as a beautician for several years. Later in life Gloria became a passionate swimmer at the YMCA. Gloria and Norm took great enjoyment in traveling to Europe and Florida.  When long distance travel became a challenge, she embraced a passion, much to the delight of her family, of entertaining them by dining out in local restaurants. Gloria was devoted to her family, the joy and light of her life.

Survivors include their children Brad (Denise) Hein of Addison, Michigan, Brett (Coleen) Hein of Dubuque, Iowa.  Grandchildren; Kyle Hein, Trevor Hein, Erin (Kent) Ives and Maggie (Ryan) McDonald. Great Grandchildren; Brycen Hein and Olivia Ives.  Gloria was preceded in death by her husband Norman (May 23rd, 2022), her parents Herman and Martha Reuschel and in-laws Edward and Ruth Hein.

Private graveside services for Norman and Gloria will be held at Dubuque Memorial Gardens Cemetery.   Eglehof, Siegert & Casper Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements. According to Gloria and Norm’s wishes, memorials may be given to Dubuque County Right to Life and Hospice of Dubuque.

The Hein family wishes to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff at Bethany Home and Hospice of Dubuque for their exceptional care and compassion shown to our mother.
