Gloria J. Wilhelm

Gloria J. Wilhelm, 81, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, April 14, 2024, at home.

Gloria Jean Tubbs was born on October 5, 1942 in Maquoketa, Iowa to Betty Louise (Welch) Tubbs.  She grew up in the Baldwin/Monmouth area.  She married Charles Mortimer Wilhelm Sr. on June 20, 1958 in Baldwin, Iowa.  Five children were born to this union, Jeanie, Charles Jr., Roy, Curt, and Kerry.

Gloria was a housewife and homemaker raising a family of five children.  She had also worked as a bartender at Slip’s Inn in Maquoketa for several years. 

Gloria enjoyed watching western movies, reading Stephen King novels, crocheting, and spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.  She especially enjoyed drinking Diet Coke!

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Jeanie Bowling of Maquoketa, IA, Charles (Tina) Wilhelm Jr. of Maquoketa, IA, Roy (Deb) Wilhelm of Maquoketa, IA, Curt Wilhelm of Maquoketa, IA, and Kerry Wilhelm of Maquoketa, IA; 13 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren with one on the way; sister, Georgia Armstrong of Maquoketa, IA; and a brother, Michael (Carol) Tubbs of Maquoketa, IA.  She was preceded in death by her mother, husband Charles Sr. on February 13, 1999, son-in-law Kenneth Bowling, brothers Jesse and Larry Tubbs, and a grandson Kristopher Wilhelm.

A graveside service and burial celebrating her life will be held at 1:30 P.M., Thursday, April 18, 2024, at Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa, Iowa.  There is no public visitation.  The Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa is caring for the family.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Gloria Jean Wilhelm memorial fund has been established.
