Herbert P. Heid
Herbert “Herb” P. Heid, 74, of Dubuque, passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Hawkeye Care Center in Asbury.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am until 12:45 pm on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Crematory.
The Funeral Service for Herb will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Crematory with Deacon Mike Timmerman officiating. A private family burial will be at St. John’s Cemetery in Placid. Full military honors will be rendered by American Legion Post #6.
Herbert was born on January 23, 1951, in Anamosa, IA, the son of Raymond and Dorothy L. (Althoff) Heid. On December 1, 1973, he married Elaine Schwendinger at St. John Catholic Church in Placid.
Herb was a proud United States Army National Guard Veteran. Herb grew up on and continued to farm the family farm for 20 years. He most recently worked for Prudential (Empower) for over 20 years, until his retirement in 2016. He was an avid Iowa State fan, especially when it came to football and basketball. He enjoyed going out to eat, spending time with his family, and relaxing with a good game of solitaire on his computer.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine of Dubuque; two children, Jeffery Heid of Muscatine, IA and Laurie (Jeremy) Bushman of Dubuque; three grandchildren, Joe (Alli) Bushman of Dubuque, Ella Bushman of Dubuque, and Adam Bushman of Waterloo; one great-grandchild, Maverick Bushman; honorary grandson, Ethan Sherer; and five siblings-in-law, Bill (Lois) Schwendinger of Earlville, Mary (Kevin) Klein of Windsor, CO, Karen (Rick) Domeyer of Dyersville, Pat (Julie) Schwendinger of Dubuque, and Don Schwendinger of Cascade.
Besides his parents, Herb was preceded in death by one sister, Linda Heid, and one brother-in-law, John (Janet) Schwendinger.
In lieu of plants and flowers, a memorial has been established.
Herb’s family would like to extend a heartfelt Thank You to the staff at Medical Associates, especially Lauren White, and the staff at Hawkeye Care Facility.
