Ida M. Starr
Ida M. Starr, 95, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Maquoketa Care Center.
A graveside service and burial celebrating Ida’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, March 1, 2024, at Union Cemetery, rural Maquoketa, Iowa. There is no visitation. The Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa is caring for the family.
Ida Mary Evinger was born on May 14, 1928 in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, to Clarion and Elsie (Shuey) Evinger. She grew up in Pennsylvania until moving to South Bend, Indiana for two years, and then to Iowa.
She married Frank Diffendefer in Pennsylvania, and they had two children, Betty Jo and William. Frank preceded her in death. On May 3, 1969, she married Walter Carlyle Starr in Muscatine, Iowa. He preceded her in death on November 16, 2012.
Ida was an accomplished seamstress and had worked in dress shops, a shoe factory, and lastly at Hyvee in Davenport handing out samples.
She enjoyed organic gardening, reading the Bible, baking, cooking, sewing, and bible study.
Those left to honor her memory include step-children, Nancy Flagel of Maquoketa, IA, Susie (Jim) McCubbin of TX, Steve (Cindy) Starr of Maquoketa, IA, and Sherri (Dwain) Feller of Spragueville, IA; daughter, Betty Jo Clark of TX; 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Frank, second husband Walter, and son William.
