James J. “Jim” Barnes, age 79, of Dubuque, IA, completed his earthly journey on June 20, 2025, at Dubuque Specialty Care.  Per Jim’s request, there will be no services held.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Jim’s family.

Jim was born on December 20, 1945, in Wilmington, DE, a son to James A. and Mary E. (Kennedy) Barnes.  After high school, Jim joined the U.S. Army and went on to proudly serve his country during the Korean War.  He returned to school in time and earned his Master’s Degree in Information Technology where he invested his time and talents with Frey & Associates in California.  Jim eventually made his way to the Dubuque area and made the most of his free-time as a scale train hobbyist and enthusiast.  His collection was quite grand and he spent countless hours creating his vision of the perfect train routes.  Jim will be missed by all who knew and loved him and we pray that he now finds peace from his earthly health battles.

and Tiffany Hansen, Dubuque, IA;

along with other extended family, friends, and neighbors.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
