Janel Kae Geisert

Janel Kae Geisert, 65, of Dubuque, and formerly of Galena, passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2018.

Friends may greet the family from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 10, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 2899 Hales Mills Road, Dubuque, where there will be a service at 11:30 a.m. Pastor Paul Amlin will officiate. Interment will be at 1:30 Saturday at Asbury Cemetery. Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Cremation Service is entrusted with arrangements.

Janel was born July 22, 1953 in Hazel Green, WI, the daughter of Ray and Amy (Johnston) Kienzle. She graduated from Scales Mound High School with the class of 1971, and during her high school years she was involved in many activities, including cheerleading and lifeguarding. She married Stephen Geisert on July 11, 2000 at Salem Lutheran Church in Orange, CA.

Janel was a resident of Galena for many years, where she was a member of Lord of Love Lutheran Church and was active with WELCA. Most recently, Janel and Stephen were members of Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Dubuque. She was also a member of the Dubuque Kiwanis Club.

Janel was employed with Microswitch for many years, and truly enjoyed doing home care for Mercy Medical Center, where she touched many lives. She also enjoyed waitressing at Timmerman’s and Chestnut Mountain Resort. Janel exhibited much strength and courage throughout her life while dealing with Type 1 diabetes since childhood. Her spirit and enthusiasm toward life was second to none. Janel loved to travel with Stephen and spend time with friends and family.

Janel is survived by her husband, Stephen, of Dubuque; her daughter, Andrea (Tony Dowe) Garvey of Waltham, MA; four siblings, Pam Jenn of Marietta, GA, Linda Lamont of Oshkosh, WI, William (Lisa) Kienzle of Chatham, IL, and Kevin (fiancée Linda Sweet) Kienzle of Dubuque; a brother in law, Arthur Geisert of Elkader; Bonnie Geisert-Way; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother in law, Rodger Lamont; and her parents in law, Leonard and Doris Geisert.
