Janice E. Peter

Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Crematory.
The Funeral Service for Janice will be at 10:30 am on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at St. Peter Lutheran Church with Rev. Nicole Robson officiating. Friends may call from 9:30 am until the time of service on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be at Linwood Cemetery in Dubuque.
Janice was born February 22, 1940, in Cresco, IA, the daughter of Clarence and Gladys Walker Hovey. On October 9, 1960, she married Gerald A. Peter in Cresco, Iowa. He preceded her in death on April 13, 2012.
Janice graduated from Cresco High School in 1959.
Janice was a long time member of St. Peter Lutheran Church where she volunteered in many capacities, such as Sunday school and Stephen’s Minister. She and Jerry were foster parents for five years and were strong supporters of Children’s International. Janice’s greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Family truly was of the utmost importance to her.
Survivors include her four children, Bruce (Yong Mi) Peter of Huntsville, AL, Lori (Jay) Schmitt of Durango; Scott Peter of Dubuque, and Mark (Ann) Peter of Mount Horeb, WI; 11 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren with two on the way and many honorary grandchildren; two sisters, Sadie Thraenert and Charlotte Hebrink, of Cresco, IA; and a brother, Harry (Michelle) Hovey of Republic, MO; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Abby Peter; three brothers, Orval Hovey, Donald (Marlys) Hovey, and Harold (Vera) Hovey; and two sisters, Helen (Ed) Dotzler and Darlene (Orvin) Bakken, and two brothers-in-law, Vincent Thraenert and Kenneth Hebrink.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Peter Lutheran Church or Hospice of Dubuque.
