Jean H. (Love) Bell
Jean Henrietta (Love) Bell, of Dubuque, passed away on April 30, 2019 surrounded by her family.
Services will be at 12 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3860 Asbury Rd., Dubuque, where visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Rev. Dana Perreand will officiate. Interment will be in Resurrection Garden Mausoleum, Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Jean was born on March 23, 1926, in Dubuque, the daughter of Jerome (Jerry) and Bertha (Utzig) Love. She attended Sacred Heart School and Immaculate Conception Academy.
On April 20, 1944 she married the love of her life, Harlan (Bud) Bell in Dubuque. They celebrated 67 years of an endearing marriage before Harlan passed away in 2011.
Jean worked at her father’s bar, Jerry’s Tap, and her brother’s bar, The Grand Tap. After she raised her two children, she babysat several years for family and friends, and then helped raise all seven of her grandchildren.
Jean was a loving wife, mother, friend and “Nana” to her grandchildren. Her children and grandchildren were her world, and she was theirs. Jean was known by all for her extremely loving nature, kindness, and generosity; and her impeccable fashion sense and unparalleled cooking skills.
She is survived by her son, Jerry (Kim) Bell and daughter, Pamela Fassbinder both of Dubuque; seven grandchildren, Michael Fassbinder of Dubuque, Jennifer Fassbinder (fiancé Alex Kocin) of Cleveland, OH, Sara (Ryan) Salter of Scottsdale, AZ, Kristina Bell (Ethan) Vanous of Des Moines, Nicholas Bell of Keystone, CO, Brianna Jean Bell of Farley, and Jenna Love Bell of Iowa City; great grandchild, Rowan Salter; nieces and nephews; and cousins.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Bud; her parents, Jerry and Bertha; three brothers, Don (Harriet), Harold (Rita) and Ken (Dorothy); her sister, Mildred Love ; her father and mother-in-law, Thomas and Helen (Haug) Bell; and her brother-in-law, Thomas (Jayne) Bell.
A special thank you to all who knew and loved Jean, and to Dr. Konz and the nursing staff at UnityPoint Health-Finley Hospital for their compassionate care.
