John E. Schroeder
With great sadness, we announce the passing of John E. Schroeder, a beloved member of the Phoenix, Arizona community and formerly of Dubuque, Iowa. John passed away on October 10, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, bravery, and love.
John was born on June 17, 1952, to Joseph and Cecelia(Portzen) Schroeder. He was a proud US Army veteran who served at the end of the Vietnam War. John was known for his unwavering patriotism and dedication to his country throughout his life.
John is survived by his brothers Joseph (Linda) Schroeder and Jerome (Linda) Schroeder, sisters Jane (Dale) Vollmert, Jean (Jerry) Huseman, and Julie (Celestine Cruz) Florez, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and brother-in-law, Joan (Richard) Reinhold.
John’s last words were, “It’s been one hell of a life, and I have really enjoyed it, and I would not change a thing.” His family will miss him dearly, but they take comfort in knowing that he lived a rich and fulfilling life.
A private family service will be held at a later date to honor John’s life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, memorials, and donations may be sent to 2584 Dove St., Dubuque, IA 52002. Rest in peace, John, and thank you for your service to our country and your community.
