John J. “J.B.” Brimeyer Jr., 77, of Dubuque, passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at Dubuque Specialty Care.

Friends may greet the family from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, November 11, at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3860 Asbury Rd., Dubuque, and from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the funeral home on Monday, November 12. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 12, at Immanuel Congregational United Church of Christ, 1795 Jackson St., Dubuque. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.

John was born August 29, 1941 in Balltown, the son of John T. and Dolores S. (Link) Brimeyer. He grew up in Balltown, and moved to Dubuque when he was 7. John graduated from Loras Academy. He was employed at the Dubuque Packing Company for 42 years. John married Carol Doerr on June 3, 1961 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

He was a member of the Local 150, and the 700 Club for Bowling. John was a longtime member of Immanuel Congregational United Church of Christ, where he was very involved and well respected.

He loved being outdoors, whether he was cutting grass or boating on the river with his family. He enjoyed watching Nascar and playing Euchre. John never missed his grandchildren’s ball games, and he hated wearing a shirt (but he wore one on Sundays for Carol). John was very sociable, and made friends wherever he went. He will be remembered for his generous, kind spirit and his contagious sense of humor.

John is survived by his wife, Carol, of Dubuque; two daughters, Dawn (Randy) Lowenberg of Cross Plains, WI, and Denise (Jim) Schemmel of Sherrill; his grandchildren, Meagan (Adrian) Lamp of Australia, Lyndsay (George) Juno of Cross Plains, WI, Ryan (Jessica) Lowenberg of Milton, WI, Paige (Troy) Thoma of Dubuque, Devin Lowenberg of Madison, WI, Zachary (Cassandra) Connolly of Davenport, IA, Shane (Emma) Sullivan of Aurora, CO, Jordan Schemmel of Sherrill, and Cole Connolly of Cross Plains, WI; his great grandchildren, Amara, Jackson, Beckett, Scarlett, Jameson, Emery, Amelia, Maya, and Cameron; his sister, JoAnn (Robert “Sam”) McPoland of Dubuque; his brother in law, Ron (Camellia) Doerr of Dubuque; and his sister in law, Sally Doerr of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings in law.

Memorials may be made to the John J. Brimeyer Memorial Fund for later donation to charities that support liver cancer research.

The family would like to thank the staff at Dubuque Specialty Care; and the doctors and nurses at UW Madison for their care of John.
