John T. Riedl

John “Jack” T. Riedl, 90, of Dubuque passed away May 17, 2024, at Hawkeye Care Center in Dubuque.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at Leonard Funeral Home and Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Rd with a parish wake service at 2:45 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 Thursday, May 23, 2024, at the Church of the Nativity in Dubuque, with Rev. Andy Upah officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Family Church Cemetery New Melleray. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post #6 and the Iowa Army National Guard.

Jack was born February 3, 1934, in Dubuque the son of John and Philomena “Minnie” (Krug) Riedl.

He attended Holy Ghost School and Loras Academy and served in the US Army from 1955-1957. Jack married Ruth Agnes Tucker April 30, 1957, at Holy Family Church New Melleray, and together they shared 67 years of marriage.

He worked at John Deere for 30 years until retirement and was a member of UAW #94.

Jack was most of all a loving family man, who also enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, especially Euchre, watching gameshows, a good coke high or margaritas.

He is survived by his wife Ruth A. Riedl; daughters Karen O’Brien (Eldridge IA), Diane Riedl (Dubuque), Linda (Scott) Ellis (Peosta); grandchildren Karla (Patrick) Brennan (Cedar Rapids IA), Greg (Erika) O’Brien (Donahue IA), Michael O’Brien (Mundelein IL), Felicia Ellis (Peosta); great-grandchildren, William and Gemma Brennan, Noah O’Brien and one on the way; sister Barb (Lloyd) Auderer (Dubuque); brother Thomas (Suzanne) Riedl (Dubuque); in-laws Edna Mae Tucker, Carolyn (Clyde) Thielen, Coletta Tucker, and Francine Tucker; and many nieces and nephews.

Jack is preceded in death by a daughter Kathy; his parents; son-in-law Robert O’Brien; 2 sisters Marcella (Glen) Coyle, and Rita (Albert “Bud” Mohr, Aloysius Koos) his-in-law’s Robert Tucker, Mary Jane and Sylvester Hoffmann, Alan Tucker, and Carl Tucker.

In lieu of flowers memorials in Jack’s name may be made to Area Residential Care of Dubuque.

The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff at Hawkeye Care Center, Tri-State Dialysis, and Hospice of Dubuque.
