Joseph B. Riesselman

Joseph B. Riesselman 80 of Dubuque passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Stonehill Care Center. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, January 31th, 2018 at Church of the Resurrection where the family will greet friends 9:30 am until Mass time on Wednesday at Church of the Resurrection. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
Joseph was born November 20, 1937 in Dubuque the son of Leo and Josephine (Jacobs) Riesselman. He graduated from St. Columbkille Catholic High School then Loras College in 1961. Joseph earned a Master’s in Guidance and Counselling from UW-Platteville in 1969. Joseph married Kay Matt on August 4, 1973 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Garnavillo. He was a science teacher at Sacred Heart, Senior High School, Benton High School and Jones Middle School before retiring in 2002. Joseph worked at Five-Flags and volunteered at Finley Hospital after retiring from teaching. He was a movie extra for the films F.I.S.T., Field of Dreams, Take This Job and Shove It, and participated in the Xavier Follies. Joseph was a member of the Lions Club, enjoyed gardening and yard-work, old western movies, real to real music, video production and enjoyed walking.
Survivors include his wife, Kay; children, Jill Riesselman and Thom Riesselman; 3 grandchildren, Dustin Riesselman, Kayden Selle and Savannah Riesselman; in-laws, Jean (Paul) Blaser and Bob Woodward; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Norma Woodward; his father and mother in-law, Duane and Ivanelle Matt.
The family would like to thank Dr. Kirkendall, Dr. Meurer, Stonehill Care Center, Hospice of Dubuque and Finley Hospital for all your care and concern for Joseph.
A memorial fund has been established in Joseph’s memory.
