Joyce C. Houston

Joyce C. Houston, 74, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away at home on Sunday, May 27, 2018, surrounded by her family.
A celebration of Joyce’s life will be held at 9 A.M., Friday, June 1, 2018 at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M. on Thursday, May 31, 2018, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Burial will be at the Pence Cemetery, rural Baldwin, Iowa.
Joyce Current was born on May 13, 1944 in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Arlo and Winifred (White) Current. She was a 1962 graduate of Maquoketa High School. She married Y. George Houston on March 28, 1964 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union three children were born, Michael, Marcus and Michelle.
Joyce was a homemaker and had first worked at Jansen Nursing Home and Clinton Engines in Maquoketa. From 1992 to 1994 she worked in the housekeeping department at Crestridge Nursing Home in Maquoketa, and lastly from 1994 to 2004 at WestWing Place in DeWitt.
Joyce enjoyed going to the casino, doing crafts, her Ipad, playing cards, watching “Days Of Our Lives”, traveling, and attending family reunions. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, George Houston of Maquoketa, IA; children, Michael (Marion) Houston of Missouri, Marcus (Inge) Houston of Germany, and Michelle (and fiancé Craig Thines) Muhlhausen of Preston; 5 grandchildren, Matthew Houston, Melanie Starr, Marcus Houston, Lance Muhlhausen and Cale Muhlhausen; 3 step-grandchildren, Collin Thines, Kennedy Thines and Paige Thines; 5 great-grandchildren, Kameron Houston, Kristopher Houston, Aiden Meier-Muhlhausen, Lylah Starr and Sean Starr Jr.; a sister Sharon (Randall) Edwards of MO; a brother, Robert “Bob” (Delores) Current of Monmouth; sisters-in-law, Doris Current of WI, Laura Condra of AL, and Kate Condra of AL; and brothers-in-law, Gerald “Jerry” Willey of CO, and Marcus “Junior” Houston of AL. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Connie Willey in 1998, an infant brother Richard, and a brother Darwin “Dart” in 2008.
