Julia E. Scheckel
Julia “Julie” E. (Keil) Scheckel, 83, of Bellevue, passed away on Friday, September 19, 2025 at Unity Point Health-Finley Hospital in Dubuque.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 29, 2025, at St. John Lutheran Church in Bellevue. Family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at Hachmann-Mier Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue. Additional visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. prior to the services at the Church. Burial will follow in St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Bellevue.
Julie was born on May 9, 1942, to Lavern and Shirley (Friels) Keil. She graduated from Bellevue Community High School in 1959, and at 18 years old, she traveled to Kansas City, Missouri, to attend the Air Institute for Airline Stewardess training. She worked briefly in Chicago before returning to Bellevue. Julie married Wayne R. Scheckel on August 29, 1964, and he passed away on September 1, 2018.
Julie and Wayne shared many happy memories, including trips to the casino, camping adventures, and spending winters in Florida. Julie was an original member of The Iowa Corn Fed Girls, as the drummer, entertaining many people over the years with her band members. Julie was also the proud owner of Julie’s Parlor and catered for many years. She was especially known for her exceptional cooking, with pies and turkey and dressing sandwiches being among her specialties. Julie was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Bellevue and a longtime member of the Bellevue Horseman’s Club. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Julie is survived by her children, Marty (Christina) Scheckel, Amy (Doug) Kucera, Scotty (Lora) Scheckel, and Melissa (Todd) Byers; grandchildren, Brittany (Kyle) Rausch, Kaitlin (Kyle) Schares, Emily (Ben) Hingtgen, Allison (Cody) Nachtman, Kyle (Megan) Scheckel, Alyssa (Justin Roling) Davis, Eliza (Karter) Scheckel, Keily (Cooper) Lee, Adrian (Keith Busch) Scheckel, Wyatt Scheckel, Sydnee (Gentry Owen) Davis, and Kallie Scheckel; great-grandchildren, Gunner Hingtgen, Witten Rausch, Anistyn Rausch, Kynnedi Busch, Callen Scheckel, Thea Nachtman, Breck Nachtman, Beau Roling, Henry Roling, and one great-grandchild on the way.
She is also survived by her sister, Jill (John) Ruggeberg, as well as numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
Julie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wayne, a sister, Jane Weinschenk, and several sisters and brothers-in-law: Donald Scheckel, Judy Scheckel, Mary Ellen Scheckel, Steven Scheckel, Carol Scheckel, and a granddaughter, Miranda Marie Scheckel.
A memorial fund has been established in Julie’s memory.
