June E. Fetter

June E. Fetter, 93, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, February 17, 2025, at Maquoketa Care Center in Maquoketa, Iowa.

Born on June 21, 1931, in Weston, Ohio, June Eloise Mercer was the daughter of Edward Samuel and Blanche Margarete (Meyer) Mercer. She grew up in Arlington, Ohio, and graduated from Arlington High School. Her heart found its match in Ronald Fetter, whom she married on April 15, 1949, in Newport, Kentucky. Their loving union was blessed with five wonderful children, Linda, Judy, Rhonda, Jeffrey, and Dave.

June’s life was a testament to her unwavering dedication to her family. She was a devoted homemaker who, while her children were in school, worked at the High-Grade Restaurant in Lima, Ohio, a Fetter family establishment. Later, June’s journey took her to Maquoketa in 1987, where she continued to work with dedication at FASTEX and then WALMART, from which she retired in 2004. Her work ethic and warm personality were appreciated by all who knew her.

A woman of faith, June was an active member of Faith Community Church in Maquoketa. Her spiritual life was a cornerstone of her existence, providing her with strength and solace throughout her journey. June’s interests included playing Bingo, a pastime that brought her much joy, as well as reading, especially the six books written by her granddaughter, Joanna.  However, it was her family that remained the center of her life. She cherished every moment spent with them.

Those left to honor June’s memory include her children, Linda Leichty of Palm Coast, FL, Judy (Rich) Rains of Maquoketa, IA, Rhonda (Bob) Eck of St. Genevieve, MO, Jeffrey (Pam) Fetter of Van Buren, OH, and Dave (Sandy) Fetter of Fostoria, OH. Her love extended to her 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy and pride. June is also survived by her brother, Thomas (Carol) Mercer of Findlay, OH, and several nieces and nephews.  June was preceded in death by her parents, her former husband Ronald Fetter in 1994, her brothers Clarence “Red” and Richard “Dick,” her sisters Betty, Thelma, and Barb, and a granddaughter, June Tubbs.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11:30 A.M., Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Faith Community Church in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. at the church.  Burial will be at a later date at the Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Arcadia, Ohio.
