Karen M. Hendricks-Scheckel
Karen M. Hendricks-Scheckel, 82, of Dubuque, died Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Stonehill Care Center in Dubuque.
Visitation will be from 9:00 am until 10:00 am Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Cathedral of St. Raphael.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Karen will be 10:00 am Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Cathedral of St. Raphael with Father Dennis Quint as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Key West.
Karen was born November 10, 1940, in Dubuque the daughter of Fredrick and Marguerite Lang Scharff. She married Donald W. Hendricks. He died October 6, 2000. She married Allen Eugene Scheckel November 19, 2005 at Cathedral of St. Raphael.
She attended St. Joseph Academy.
She was a phone operator before working as a clerk at Eagles Grocery for 23 years.
She had served as president of Rosary Society at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Key West. She avidly followed Loras football, where her first husband had been a coach. She loved to bake and decorate cakes and taught cake decorating classes. She was an avid reader, loved soap operas, playing euchre, cribbage, the Green Bay Packers and especially cherished time with her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Al of Dubuque; three sons, Thomas (Cynthia) Hendricks of West Liberty, James (Julie) Hendricks of Lisbon, and William (Susan Grundberg) Hendricks of Des Moines; six grandchildren, Jacob (Laurie) Hendricks, Emma Hendricks, Hayden Hendricks, Dylan Hendricks, Samuel Hendricks, and Ella Hendricks; two great-grandchildren, Paisley and Amaias Hendricks; one sister, Marguerite “Peggy” Helling of Dubuque; and one brother, Fredrick Scharff, Jr. of Cuba City, WI.
Besides her first husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and son, David Anthony, one sister, Sue Hall, and one brother-in-law Bob Helling.

A memorial has been established for Hospice of Dubuque.
