Kathryn J. VanNatta-Grant
Kathryn (Kate) Jill VanNatta-Grant, age 45, died at home on Sunday, June 15, 2024.
Kate was born in Dubuque on June 7, 1979, to Larry and Linda Van Natta. She attended Holy Ghost School and graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1997.
Kate began her working career as a Telegraph Herald paper carrier. She then worked at Eagle’s grocery store while attending Northeast Iowa Community College. After graduating from NICC, Dental Assistant program, she worked for over 20 years at Dubuque Orthodontics before working at Cottingham and Butler in October 2023.
Visitation will be from 8:45 to 10:45 am Saturday June 22 at Holy Spirit Parish-Sacred Heart Church followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am Saturday.
At an early age, Kate started as a volunteer at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque and as an asset at the University of Iowa pediatric mobile clinics, which was held at Mercy.
She proudly followed in her father’s footsteps and served in the Dubuque Police Auxiliary for several years.
Kate was also ready and willing to help families with children’s special needs. She thrived on caring for them. She often cared for very medically fragile children in order to provide respite for their parents. As a dental assistant, she often could be found assisting children after working hours with broken mouth braces, etc.
Kate lost a dear friend of hers several years ago because of a drunk driver, so Kate readily made herself available to be a designated driver to whomever needed a safe ride home.
Kate was very talented with crafted creations and often supplemented her income by selling her beautiful crafts.
Kate is survived by her husband, Christopher Grant, and her three sons who were her pride and joy: Jacob, Logan and Riley Dean. She is also survived by her mother, Linda Van Natta, a sister, Lori (Bill Hirsch) Holzer, a brother, Scott (Rachel)Van Natta, several nieces and nephews: Mallory, Owen and Allison Morris, Caleb Van Natta, and Chase and Lyla Van Natta.
