Kenneth C. Barthel 80, of Warren, IL formerly Galena, passed away suddenly, September 5, 2021, at William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital, Madison, WI.

A graveside service will be held at 11AM, Saturday, September 25, 2021, in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Galena, IL where military honors will be accorded graveside by Galena VFW Post #2665 and American Legion Post #193. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena is assisting the family.

He was born April 6, 1941, in Freeport, IL the son of Arthur and Elsie (Krohmer) Barthel. Ken served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 – 1962 on the U.S.S. Paul Revere, San Diego, CA. He was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan and enjoyed fishing and working on small engines. Ken married Elaine Ties and together they had six children, Richard Barthel, of Orangeville, IL, Cindy (Kirk) Schubert, of Mt. Carroll, IL, Jerry (Eloise) Barthel, of Lena, IL, Susan (Keith) Cochran, of Freeport, IL, Michael Barthel, of Chetek, WI, and Curtis (Kathy) Barthel, Lena, fourteengrandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
