Lionel W. LaPage
Lionel W. “Doc” LaPage, 85, passed away November 29, 2023. Visitation will be from 2:00-6:00p.m., Sunday, December 3, 2023 at the Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Road, Dubuque. Funeral services will immediately follow at 6:00p.m. with Rev. Steven Garner officiating. Inurnment will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Rickardsville, Iowa.
Doc was born on August 30, 1938 in Dubuque, Iowa to George E. and Linda E. (Miller) LaPage. Doc grew up on the family farm in Rickardsville, Iowa. At the age of 13, they moved to Dubuque. He attended school at St. Joseph’s in Rickardsville, and then went on to Jefferson Junior High School and Dubuque Senior High School, graduating in 1956.
Doc worked at the Dubuque Pack for 44 years and then worked at Geisler Brothers for two years. He later went on to work for the City of Dubuque for 14 years where he met many great friends.
He enjoyed going to Farm Toy shows with his friend Whitey. He also enjoyed spending time with his dear friend Jerry Benn. He was also a collector of Farmall model tractors. Other hobbies included target shooting, fixing small engines and motorcycles, and reading history books.
Doc is survived by sons, Jeffrey M. (Sandy) LaPage, James M. (Stacey) LaPage; a daughter, Jolene M. LaPage; grandsons, Nathen, Patrick, and Ryan “Buzz”; granddaughters, Katie, Rachel, Sarah, and Kayla. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, including his favorite niece, Candy (Bob) Hachmann of Peosta. He is also survived by his former wife, Sandy Walker, and brother-in-law, Jim Walker.
Doc was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Clarence McDermott; brothers, Keith and Lester LaPage; and a sister, Linda Lou LaPage.
In lieu of flowers, a Lionel LaPage Memorial Fund has been established.
Doc’s family wishes to extend a special thank you to Mercy One Cancer Center, especially Dr. Engelman and his nurse, Sarah. They also wish to thank the wonderful staff at Luther Manor Grand Meadows for their care and compassion given to Doc these past few months.
