Lois J. Duhme

Lois Jean Duhme, 90, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at Maquoketa Care Center in Maquoketa, Iowa.

A celebration of her life will be held at 1:30 P.M., Monday, July 18, 2022, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa.  Visitation will be held prior to the funeral from 11:30 A.M. to 1:15 P.M. at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa, Iowa.

Lois Jean Kyarsgaard was born on February 1, 1932 in Preston, Iowa, to Louis Dale and Esther Elizabeth (Gibson) Kyarsgaard.  She was a 1949 graduate of Maquoketa High School.  She married Melvin A. Duhme on June 2, 1963 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.  He preceded her in death on January 15, 2011.

Jean had worked as the head bookkeeper and accountant and manager of computerized bookkeeping for Maquoketa Web Printing for over 50 years.  She was a former member and served as treasurer of the Harmony United Church of Christ in Zwingle.  She had also served as the treasurer for the Zwingle Recreation Area and volunteered on many projects.  She enjoyed bird watching, canning, flowers, and gardening, and in her later years was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Michael (Lura Daniels) Duhme of Zwingle, IA, Janice (Toby) Wilke of Maquoketa, IA, Gerald (Kelli) Duhme of Akron, OH, Shirley (Dale) Smith of Des Moines, IA, Larry (Linda) Duhme of Central City, IA, Richard (Carol) Duhme of Maquoketa, IA, and Cheryl (Brian) Nordyke of Pleasant Hill, IA; step-children, Dale Duhme of Sioux Falls, SD, David (Beverly) Duhme of Waterville, MN, and Darlene (Steven) Luther of Waseca, MN; 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 12 step-grandchildren; a brother, Leon “Bud” (Louise) Kyarsgaard of Monmouth, IA; sister, Eloise (Darrel) Larson of Marion, IA; and a daughter-in-law, Loly Duhme of Maquoketa, IA.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Melvin, an infant son, a step-son Dennis Duhme, and 2 grandchildren Travis and Steven.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to the Jackson County Humane Society.
