Lois O’Brien, 92, of Dubuque, died Thursday, July 16, 2026, at the Eagle Pointe Place in Dubuque.

A prayer service will be held at 2:30 pm Sunday, July 19, 2026 at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Crematory followed by visitation until 6:00 pm.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Lois will be 10:30 am Monday, July 20, 2026, at Church of the Resurrection with Father Michael Schueller as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery in Dubuque.

Lois was born September 30, 1933, in Dubuque, IA, the daughter of Alvin and Pauline Schilling Conzett. On September 4, 1954, she married Robert J. “Bob” O’Brien, former Dubuque Chief of Police, at Church of the Nativity in Dubuque. He passed away on December 29, 2004.

Lois was a 1951 graduate of Visitation Academy.

Lois was a dedicated member of Church of the Resurrection, where she volunteered in many roles, including helping with the parish festivals, and funeral Masses and lunches. At Eagle Pointe Place, Lois built a close-knit community of friends, enthusiastically participating in activities there and rarely missing an opportunity to play BINGO. Above all else, Lois’s greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was her family. Being a loving mother and grandmother was the center of her life, and she treasured every moment spent with those she loved most.

Survivors include her daughter, Chris (Tom) Nugent of Dubuque; one granddaughter, Alyx (Tory) Hackert of Solon, IA; two grandsons, O’Brien (Alissa) Nugent and Brendan (Averi) Nugent, both of Dubuque; one great-granddaughter, Mallori, and two more great-grandchildren on the way; and one sister-in-law, Connie Conzett of Dubuque.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a sister in infancy, sister, Betty (Thomas) Glass, and brother, William Conzett.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Boys and Girls Club of Greater Dubuque, Dubuque Rescue Mission, and Church of the Resurrection.

Lois’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and residents of Eagle Pointe Place for the kindness, friendship, and care that made her life there so enjoyable. They also wish to express their appreciation to the staff of Hospice of Dubuque for the care and support they provided to Lois and her family.
