Marie Carol Green, age 77 of Dubuque, IA passed away at home Monday June 5, 2023.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 9, 2023 at St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church with Rev. Brian Dellaert officiating. Entombment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery Chapel Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 8, 2023, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road with a wake service to be held at 3:45 p.m. Visitation will also be from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Friday at the church.

Marie was born on September 19, 1945 the youngest of 11 children. She was the daughter of George and Ella (Brun) McGovern.  Marie was blessed to be wed to Kenneth J Green, her best friend, on April 17, 1971 at St. Martin Church in Cascade, IA. They were married forty-eight wonderful years until Ken’s passing in December of 2019.  The passing of her oldest daughter, Stacey Green, in December of 2021 was very difficult but gave her strength knowing a reunion was coming at the end of her long battle with illness.

Marie was a proud small business owner in Dubuque for many years having done packing and shipping as well as retail where she got to help people and share her love of crafts.  Other things Marie loved included traveling with Ken to see the grandkids, her yearly cookie exchanges with friends, time with her bible study group, being a Teresian, camping and visiting with her camper club, and volunteering.  She volunteered at the Discovery Shop, delivered Meals on Wheels together with her husband and helped at the Catholic Worker House.  She found so much joy in helping others and giving of her time to make someone feel loved.

Marie was a mother and grandmother (Grammy) who deeply loved and treasured the blessing of time with her family and close friends.  She was a kind, spiritual, and giving person who was private about her personal battle with illness, but there to help others through prayer or acts of kindness whenever the need arose.

Her absence will be deeply felt by the broken hearts of all who knew her. Marie is survived by her children Dan (Carrie) Green of Dubuque Iowa, Maggie Mauch (Jon) of Champlin Minnesota, and Jay Green of Iowa city, her five grandchildren Morgan, Ashley and Maci Mauch, and Finley and Frasier Green as well as siblings Jackie Trumm, Joan Otting, Betty Leibold, Sister Ann McGovern, Linda Manternach, and Robert “Bob” McGovern.  Marie is preceded in death by her parents and siblings Thomas “Tommy” McGovern, Faith Kelly, James “Bud” McGovern, and MaDonna Reinke.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at MercyOne Medical Center for their caring support and kindness.

In lieu of flowers a Marie Green memorial fund will be established.
