Marilyn A. Hughes
Marilyn Ann Hughes, 94, of Dubuque, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Bethany Home.
Visitation will be from 10:00-10:45a.m., Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at Church of the Nativity, 1225 Alta Vista Street, Dubuque, IA 52001. Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 11:00a.m., with Rev. Andy Upah officiating. Burial will be in East Dubuque Cemetery.
Marilyn was born on January 27, 1930 to Leo and Tillie (Dorsch) Kraft in Waterloo, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Alfred Hughes on February 9, 1952 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in East Dubuque, IL.
Marilyn led a faith-filled life by raising a family and her three children, Terrence, Charles, and Susan. She was an enthusiastic volunteer for numerous community organizations including Visiting Nursing Association, and a sacristan and Eucharistic minister at Nativity Parish. Marilyn was an active volunteer for 40 years at Manor Care.
She loved spending time with her family and friends. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed many travels with friends. Marilyn was a special “Gigi” to all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Marilyn is survived by her children, Dr. Terrence (Toni) Hughes, of Milwaukee, Wis., Charles (Mary) Hughes, of Newark, Del., and Susan Hughes, of Elgin, Ill. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Keenan (Jill) Hughes, Allison (Dr. Chip) Dorsey, Dr. Jordan (Dr. Kate) Hughes, Neddie (James) Brennan, Kelsey (Matt) Kinnear, Shane (Laura) Finnane, and Evan Finnane; great-grandchildren, Esme, Beatrice, Max, Miles, Norah, Arthur, Kennedy, Josephine, Alan, and Tillie. She is also survived by her brother, Charles (Lee) Kraft of Kansas City, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings, Leo (Helen) Kraft, Robert (Maggie) Kraft, and Lorraine (Bud) Batteram.
Marilyn’s family wishes to extend a special thank you for the care and support given from St. Croix Hospice team, Oak Park Place and Bethany Home.
