Marjorie A. Havertape
We are sad to announce the passing of Marjorie Ann Havertape, 84, of rural Hazel Green, WI, at 2:35 p.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at home surrounded by her loving family. Up until the end, Margie maintained her kindness, grace, sense of humor, and love for her family. She expressed many times her gratitude for her wonderful long, happy, and full life. She will be missed by so many.
A private family Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at Sinsinawa, WI, with Fr. Peter Auer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
There will be no public visitation. The Miller Funeral Home of East Dubuque is assisting the family.
Marjorie was born on August 29, 1939, at home in Elizabeth, IL, the daughter of Henry H. and Regina A. (Banwarth) Goldhagen. She was united in marriage to Herbert A. Havertape on July 12, 1958, at St. Joseph’s Church. He preceded her in death on April 3, 2021.
After graduating from St. Clara Female Academy, she started working for Weber in Dubuque as a secretary. Margie later became a lifelong hardworking and devoted farmwife. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. The grandkids were always on her mind as she took interest in their daily lives. She loved talking to them about politics and the younger generation’s point of view.
One of her cherished pastime was to spend time with her sisters known as “Sister Day” whom she shared a very special bond with each of them. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish.
Surviving are her three sons, Rick, Terry (Dana), and Scott (Linda) Havertape all of Hazel Green; six grandchildren, Joshua, Lindsey, Jeremy, Jacob, Sean, and Ashley; three great grandchildren, Violet, Finn, and Bennett; her siblings, Mary Lu Leibold and Carol (Norm) Niemeyer; her sister-in-law, Nancy Goldhagen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Regina; her husband, Herb; her son, Michael; her sister, Jeanette Rigdon, brothers, Vernon and Richard, and brother-in-law, Dick Rigdon.
Marjorie’s family extends a special thank you to Hospice of Dubuque, for their excellent care and compassion shown to their mother.
