Marlene Vohringer
Marlene Vohringer, 81, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, November 10, 2021, at Crestridge Care Center in Maquoketa, Iowa.
A private graveside service and burial celebrating Marlene’s life will be held on Monday, November 15, 2021 at Buckhorn Cemetery, rural Maquoketa. A private family visitation will be held at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa.
Marlene Christensen was born on November 28, 1939 in Iowa City, Iowa, to Alvin Theodore and Blanche Bernice (Melson) Christensen. She was a 1958 graduate of West Branch High School. She married Karl E. Vohringer on January 17, 1966 in St. Louis, Missouri. He preceded her in death on April 22, 2001.
Marlene had worked at Operation New View in Maquoketa for several years and had been self-employed at Karl’s Auto Salvage until retirement.
Marlene served as a race scorekeeper at various area racetracks and was inducted into the Maquoketa Speedway Hall of Fame for Scoring in 2020. She enjoyed building doll houses, sewing, camping, and traveling.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Allen (Carol) Kunde of DeWitt, IA, Kris (Lisa) Vohringer of Maquoketa, IA, Lauri Kunde of Clinton, IA, Loretta (Rick) Elliot of Des Moines, IA, and Kandi (Mark) Marshall of Maquoketa, IA; step-children, Denny (Jo) Vohringer of Delmar, IA, Sharon (Larry) Boedecker of Calamus, IA, Carla (Frank) Roberts of Maquoketa, IA, Cindy Clark of Monmouth, IA, Tom (Maryanne) Sandberg of Manchester, IA, David Sandberg of MO, and Cathie (Bob) McDonald of Blue Grass, IA; a sister, Diana Martin of CO; and 25 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Karl, children August Kunde and Karl Vohringer, a brother Ron Christensen, and 6 grandchildren.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Marlene Vohringer memorial fund has been established.
