Mary C. Meyer

Mary C. Massey Meyer, 85, of Dubuque, died Friday, August 2, 2024, at Bethany Home in Dubuque.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 am until the time of the service on Friday, August 9, 2024 at St. Columbkille’s Catholic Church.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Mary will be at 11:00 am on Friday, August 9, 2024, at St. Columbkille’s Catholic Church with her brother, Fr. Phil Thompson, as the Celebrant. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Key West.

Mary was born August 10, 1938, in Dubuque, IA, the daughter of Earl and Katherine (Flynn) Thompson. On November 28, 1959 she married Duane Massey. He preceded her in death on May 2, 2002. She later married Robert Joseph Meyer, he preceded her in death on April 7, 2020.

Mary graduated from St. Columbkille’s High School. She worked for Medical Associates in the insurance department.

Mary was deeply devoted to her family. She delighted in hosting holiday gatherings, baking treats, eating chocolate, and spending time with her grandchildren. She loved Big Band music and enjoyed going dancing with Duane. Mary was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed following current events and politics.

Survivors include three children, Jeanne (Paul Taylor) Massey of Minneapolis, MN; Steve (Kate) Massey of Forest Lake, MN; and Paula (Jeff) Dostal of St. Louis, MO; nine grandchildren, Brad, Megan, Colleen, Drew, Daniel, Kurt, Mitch, Quinn, and Lauren; two siblings, Eleanor (Don) Freiburger and Fr. Phil Thompson both of Dubuque; one sister-in-law, Sally Thompson; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Laura Klinkhammer; and one brother, John Thompson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to Bethany Home.

The family would like to extend a special Thank You to the loving and compassionate staff at Bethany Home, Hospice of Dubuque, and Dr. Ries for all of their care.
