Melvin “Mel” J. Beringer, 97, of Dubuque, formerly of La Motte, died on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at the Bethany Home in Dubuque.

There will be no visitation or services. Burial will be at Holy Rosary Cemetery in La Motte, IA, at a later date.

Mel was born on October 27, 1927, in La Motte, IA, the son of Anthony and Anna (Streff) Beringer. He was a patron of the arts and backer of athletics. Mel was a World War II United States Navy veteran, spending 10 months in Guam in 1945 and 1946.

Survivors include his brother, Raymond (Jeanne) Beringer of Clarinda, IA; and his sister, Sister Jean Beringer, OSF of Dubuque; and several nieces and nephews.

Mel was preceded in death by his parents and one sister and brother-in-law, Lillian (Donald) Bechen.

Family requests donations be made to La Motte Area Advancement or the Dubuque Rescue Mission.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Bethany Home and Hospice of Dubuque for their care given to Mel.
