Nicholas D. Guler

Nicholas D. “Nick” Guler, 39 of Sherrill, Iowa passed away of heart failure on April 29th, 2024, at UnityPoint Health, Finley Hospital.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 3rd, 2024, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road. Additional visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday May 4th, at the funeral home, with a funeral service to begin at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor John Soernson officiating. The burial will be at a later date in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Nick was born on June 17, 1984, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Dean and Rose (Goerdt) Guler. He graduated from Hempstead High School in 2002 and from NICC as a Diesel Tech in 2003.
He was currently employed at John Deere in the Mechanic Experimental Department. He also worked for Errthum Custom Farming, along with countless side gigs wherever help was needed.
Although Nick worked hard, he played even harder, he lived his life to the fullest. He learned this lesson early in life when his father passed away in 2010.
Nick’s favorite place was on his boat, on the river with a fishing pole in his hand. He was an avid fisherman and attended many tournaments. We could hardly find a picture of him without a fish in it.
His family and friends were most important. He is Uncle Nick to Will and Jade and Uncle Gub to many more.
He is survived by his mother Rose (Randy) Ludowitz; his sister Amanda (Justin) Hoffmann; his nephew/godson Will and his niece Jade. His grandparents Earl and Marlene Guler. Aunts and Uncles: Wayne & Jean Guler, Penny and Jim Wulfekuhle, Doreen Goerdt, John and Diane Goerdt, and Mike and Cindy Goerdt. He is also survived by extended family members and many great friends.
Nick was preceded in death by his father Dean; grandparents Robert and Opal Goerdt and Uncles Bob Goerdt and Scott Goerdt.
The family wishes to thank Finley ER and ICU, especially Shannon RN in the ER along with Sherrill Fire and Ambulance for all their care and compassion they gave to Nick and his family.
Nick’s final gift to others was being a tissue donor with the Iowa Donor Network.
Although our hearts are breaking, we know he is watching over us.
