Norman N. Hoerstmann
Norman Nicholas Hoerstmann, 91, of rural Hazel Green, WI, died Thursday, May 30, 2024, at his home.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until 10:15 am on Friday, June 7, 2024 at Holy Spirit Parish – Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Norm will be at 10:30 am on Friday, June 7, 2024, at Holy Spirit Parish – Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1701 Rhomberg Ave, Dubuque, IA 52001, with Father Steven Garner as the Celebrant. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque.
Norm was born December 5, 1932, in Dubuque, IA, the son of Victor and Cathryn (Schinstock) Hoerstmann. On September 28, 1957, he married Mary Ann Skemp at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Dubuque, Iowa.
Norm worked as a plasterer for 15 years for Frank Hammel before working for the Telegraph Herald in the mailroom for over 25 years, retiring in 1996.
Norm was a radio hobbiest, music lover, and flashlight collector. He also enjoyed boating on the Mississippi River in his canoe and motorboat. Always liking something to do, he enjoyed keeping himself occupied with projects around the house and in his shed. Most of all, Norm will be remembered as a person with a sly sense of humor and being a very kind, gentle, patient man.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Mary Ann; four children, Michael (Kaylen) Hoerstmann of Sun Prairie, WI; Patrick Hoerstmann of Merrill, WI; Heather (Jim) Barker of Prior Lake, MN; and Molly (Brent) Klefstad of Boyceville, WI; seven grandchildren, Nick and Megan Hoerstmann, Ben Hoerstmann, Ainsley and Warwick Barker, Cade and John Klefstad; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Norm was preceded in death by his four siblings, Vernon, Marcellus, Eleanor (Joseph) Vize, and Virginia (Robert) Vize.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Dubuque.
