Patricia A. Scheckel
Patricia A. (Current) Scheckel, 76, of Bellevue, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 7, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 13, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bellevue. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Hachmann-Mier Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue. Additional visitation will be held Thursday morning from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. prior to Mass at the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Bellevue.
Pat was born on February 18, 1949, the daughter of James and Rose Marie (Lambert) Current. She initially married her high school sweetheart Dan Knake in May of 1971, he tragically died in December of that same year. Pat later married the love of her life, Thomas Scheckel, on March 15, 1975, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bellevue, a union In which all of her children were born.
Over the years, Pat lived a full and meaningful life, wearing many hats with grace and dedication. She volunteered coaching her kids many sporting teams thru the years, She owned and operated her own beauty salon from 1971 to 1976. She operated her own clothing stores, Kids Kountry and Kids Korner in the 1980’s. She later worked at the Bellevue Community Schools caring for special needs children, a role in which she loved. For 50 years she has been the co owner and office manager of Scheckel Construction, United Auction Center, and the entire Scheckel farming operations, supporting her husband in all things. Above all, Pat cherished her role as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
Her greatest joy came from her family, especially her 14 beloved grandchildren. With her life centered around making their events and games, always the biggest fan and supporter. Always a special hug no matter the outcome.
She enjoyed decorating her house, especially at Christmas. Often participating in parade of homes to share her joy of the holiday.
Pat was proud of their induction into the Iowa Quarter Horse Racing Hall of Fame in 2024, a testament to the passion and contributions to the sport.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Tom; her children, Casey Veach, Josh (Angie) Scheckel, Jake (Ashley) Scheckel; her 14 grandchildren; her siblings, Chuck (Wendy) Current, and Amy (Chris) Smith; nephew D.J. Head, her sisters- and brothers-in-law, Marilyn (Merlin “Pete”) Clasen, Patricia (Gerald) Meis, Dave Scheckel, Lou Ann Scheckel, Bonnie (Bertrand “Butch”) Coakley, Ruth (Rich) Hopson, and Jane (Ron) Nemmers; and many other nieces, nephews, and extended family members who loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son-in-law, Jason Veach; her father- and mother-in-law, Odelo and Ila Scheckel; her sister, Jeanne (Mick) Head; and her sisters- and brothers-in-law, Judith Scheckel, Wayne (Julie) Scheckel, Carol Scheckel, Mary Ellen Scheckel, Donald Scheckel, and Steven Scheckel.
