Peggy L. Stevens

Peggy L. Stevens, 79, of Baldwin, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at her home.

Peggy Le Clausen was born on September 13, 1943 in Preston, Iowa, to Harold Julius and Effie Henrietta (Jones) Clausen.  She grew up in the Preston and Goose Lake area and graduated from Goose Lake High School in 1961 where she was the Class Valedictorian.  Shortly after graduation, she married Larry Stevens.  Two children were born to this union, Jane, and Mike.

Peggy had worked various jobs, including as a secretary for the Andrew Schools and Cascade Livestock.  For many years she had worked as the secretary and administrative assistant for Maquoketa Feeds, retiring in January of 2021.

Peggy was a member of the National Barrel Horse Association and had served as a longtime area 4-H leader.  She loved barrel racing and ran her last race in April of this year.  She also loved being a grandma to everyone.

Those left to honor her memory include a daughter, Jane (Ed) Butt of Maquoketa, IA; daughter-in-law, Kay Stevens of Bethany, MO; 2 grandchildren, Jyme Stevens, and Ben Butt; sisters, Fern Ackerman of Bellevue, IA, Charlotte (Curt) Pefferman of Clinton, IA, and Judy Soenksen of LeClaire, IA; and a sister-in-law, Mary Clausen of Clinton, IA.  She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Mike Stevens, brother Richard Clausen, and a sister Patsy Farrell.

A gathering of family and friends celebrating Peggy’s life will be held from 4 to 7 P.M., Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa.  A private family prayer service will be held.  Cremation rites have been accorded.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Jackson County or the Grand River Medical Oncology Unit in Dubuque.
