Peter F. Pfohl

Peter Frank Pfohl, age 70, of Dubuque, went to meet our Lord at 5:09 p.m., on Monday, July 29, 2024, at Sunnycrest Manor.  To honor Peter’s life, family and friends may visit from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., on Friday, August 2, 2024, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street.  Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m., on Friday at the funeral home, with Deacon Steve Whiteman officiating.  Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Born September 28, 1953, the son of Joseph P. and Margaret Ann (Schueller) Pfohl, and beloved brother of Mary (Pfohl) Kisting, Peter suffered an accidental deprivation of oxygen at birth.  Despite being mentally handicapped, Peter lived an exemplary life glorifying our Lord with an infectious smile and gentle demeanor towards everyone he met.  Despite his inability to speak, Pete and his sister Mary communicated to one another effectively the special love they shared.  Mary understood better than anyone what Peter’s needs and desires were and she spent her entire life advocating for Pete’s care.  Pete was well aware his sister made it her mission in life to smooth life’s roads for Peter’s journey in this world.  He surely felt that love and enjoyed every minute spent with her.

Through our pain of loss we’re left to imagine the magnificent moment Pete now has in Paradise to speak to his mom and dad.

As a youngster growing up in the country, Pete loved animals, toy trucks, and most anything mechanical.  He understood how to use his hand’s dexterity and loved to take things apart.

Those left to cherish Peter’s memory include

his sister and brother-in-law,
Mary and Kevin Kisting, Dubuque, IA;

a niece and a nephew,
Karen and Wesley (Anna) Kisting;

and many cousins.

Peter was preceded in death by his parents.

Peter’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Sunnycrest for their kindness and the wonderful care and friendship they have provided these past years.  Their gentle care and positive attitude made a huge difference in Peter’s life.

Memorials would be appreciated in Peter’s memory to the Sunnycrest Manor Auxiliary Fund, 2375 Roosevelt Street, Dubuque, IA 52001 or to the Dubuque Humane Society, 4242 Chavenelle Road, Dubuque, IA 52002.
