Portrait Painting Workshop with Lisa Towers

Thursday, October 23, 2025: 7- 9pm Demonstration – public invited

October 24-26 – 9am – 4pm Workshop with model

In this three-and-a-half day workshop you will learn what goes into the creation of a successful portrait, from setting up the model (clothing/posing/lighting), to completing up to a 20 X 24 inch oil or pastel portrait. Focus will be on a combination of indirect and direct painting techniques with a limited palette. Lisa will demonstrate the technique on the evening before the workshop begins, Thursday, October 16 at 7pm in the VOICES studio. This demonstration will be open to the public with seats reserved for students enrolled in the workshop.

During the workshop, students will begin by sketching the composition in thumbnail and full size to transfer to the canvas or sanded paper. Options available for beginning students as well as more advanced students. Work will be created in front of the model for the most part, but when she is not present, student artists will be able to work from their photos of the model. A supply list will be provided upon registration.

The workshop will conclude Sunday afternoon with a wine and cheese critique.

Cost of workshop: $350

Registration and Payment DEADLINE: October 16th, 2025
