Rev. Philip F. Recker
Reverend Philip Franklin Recker, 91, of Dubuque, died Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at the Stonehill Care Center in Dubuque.
Visitation will be from 9:30 am until 10:30 am Saturday, November 23, 2024 at Cathedral of St. Raphael.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Father Recker will be 10:30 am Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Cathedral of St. Raphael with Archbishop Thomas Zinkula as the Celebrant. The Graveside Committal Service and Interment will be 2:30 pm Saturday, November 23, 2024 at St. Joseph Cemetery in New Hampton.
Father Philip was born February 20, 1933, in Bancroft, IA, the son of Frank Arnold and Mary Celeste (Underkofler) Recker.
He was a graduate of Loras College and completed his theological studies at Mt. St. Bernard Seminary. On January 31, 1959, he was ordained by Archbishop Leo Binz at the Cathedral of St. Raphael. During his 38 years as a priest, Father’s parish assignments spanned Iowa. He was assigned as Assistant Priest in Belmond and Nashua, both in 1959; Cresco at St. Joseph’s (1959-1964); Dubuque at Wahlert High School (1964-1975) and the Cathedral of St. Raphael (1984); Fayette and Hawkeye (1984-1990); Cedar Rapids at St. Patrick’s (1990-1991); Williams and Jewell (1997); Osage (1997-2003); and as ACCW Moderator at the Elkader Deanery (1989-1990). He retired in 2003.
Survivors include one niece, Monica (Nick) Edwards of Solon, Iowa.
Father Recker was preceded in death by one brother, Richard (Margaret “Peg”) Recker.
