Richard L. Kemp
Richard “Dick” L. Kemp, 83, of Chicago, Illinois, formerly of Dubuque, passed away on May 31, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chicago, Illinois.
Friends and family may visit from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday June 25, 2024, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road.
A Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Deacon David Roth. Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post #6. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Dick was born on October 11, 1940, son of Louis Michael and Lucille Josephine (Hendricks) Kemp. He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1960. He was united in marriage to Margaret “Peggy” Ann Ferguson in October 1963 in Dubuque until her passing on April 26, 1988. He then married Helen Riley June in 1994 until her passing in June 2012.
Dick worked at John Deere from 1972 until his retirement in 1999, starting in Dubuque and ending in Des Moines. Dick honorably served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Kitty Hawk from 1960 to 1962, and the United States Air Force from 1962-1966. He was a member of the UAW Local 94 of Dubuque and the UAW Local 450 in Des Moines. Dick was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1354 and 4th Degree Dubourg General Assembly, and the American Legion Post #273 of Bellevue, Iowa. He was a long time Chicago Cubs fan and an avid golfer. He loved to travel and enjoy the biggest love of his life: his grandkids.
Dick is survived by his two sons David of Creston, Iowa and Jeff of Chicago, Illinois, two grandchildren Jonathan and Quinn, both of Chicago, as well as his lovely long-term girlfriend of nine years Carol Trzos.
He was preceded in death by his oldest son John who passed on August 2, 2003, and his older sister Marilyn Anderson in February 2019.
